BigDog is a robotic quadruped developed by Boston Dynamics. BigDog weighs 240 pounds, is 2.5 feet tall and around three feet long. BigDog's four legs are articulated like an animals, with the ability to absorb shock and recycle energy with every step. He can run about 4 mph, climb up to 30 degree slopes, walk across all sorts of terrain, while carrying a load of 340 pounds. BigDog has a variety of sensors used for locomotion and internal monitoring, some of which include a gyroscope, LIDAR, a stereo vision system, hydraulic pressure monitor, oil temperature monitor, battery charge monitor and others. BigDog was funded by DARPA and the Army Research Laboratory's RCTA program.
